CIRCUS ELEPHANT
Have you ever seen the elephant show? And did you
ever hear about the cruelty? I’m one of those who experienced or heard about
that news. Do you know the Ringling Bros. circus?
It is where the elephants are beaten, hit, poked, prodded, and jabbed with
sharp hooks, sometimes until bloody. The trainers
cruelly force baby elephants to learn tricks by tied them up and electric shocked.
The circus elephants are restricted to a practical training. They has to know the commands which are important
for an exciting show such as learn to stand patiently, two- and even one-armed handstands, standing
on the hind legs, or show exercises that absolutely unnatural for elephants.
I have watched the movie about the elephant circus
that is “Water for Elephants”. This film based on the best seller novel book.
The most romantic story of young veterinarian ‘Jacob’ who met and fell in love
with ‘Marlena’, the star of the circus. Everything looks beautiful both their
love and caring for one elephant which helped to escape from the men used in
gambling. This movie had conveyed the cruelty that had been made to the elephant
and other animals too. It has the scene that elephant ‘Rosie’ hurt the trainer
to the death that didn’t occur from its malignance but had been made from a
cruelty of the trainer who used the brutal methods in training and they just
finally couldn't stand with it anymore. That seems to the human life. When we
are forced by someone or something or we are stolen the freedom, we will do
everything to get out of it, though we have to use a violence.
I think elephant show in Thailand and abroad are
different that separated by treat and attention of the trainers. Because the
circus abroad, animals are treated for an enjoyment like they are just normal
things and don’t have any feeling or even heart. On the other hand, Thai elephants
would be helped from the crisis especially in the Northern of Thailand. Most of
elephants were forced to take amphetamine that let them have more energy to
pull the logs as much as possible. After that, they were sold to Center and
North-East of Thailand. Most of them got sick and finally died.
According to the problem, Wangchang elephant camp at
Ayuddhaya has a determination to help and conserve Thai elephants to be with us
for a long time. They have sustained, organized, and standardized the procedure
to take care all of elephants. Moreover, they initiated the project of Thai
elephant’s inheritance as the first place in the world. They’re treated by
caring and affection, not by threat.
Although we have much concern and do lots of
campaign to stop elephants cruelty but still today there exist very brutal
training methods, which have got nothing to do with tradition, but only with
the human’s attitude towards the animal. They also feel pain, hurt, and cry
like humans do. So, just treat them, care them, and love them as they are your
friends. Let they have a beautiful freedom as you want. THAT’S LIFE!
